I am in shock as I’m writing this. My family is in Ukraine and the war has just begun. My dad (69 y.o. in bad health) is only 10 miles from the Russian border and Russian troops have entered Ukraine and I hear reports of them advancing further into the country. Civilian and military casualty reports are starting to come in. My sister and her family are about 125 miles from the Russian border and only 65 miles from the Russian-occupied territories. My niece (10 y.o.) and my nephew (18 y.o.) have stayed home today (2/24/22) as schools are closed. The family is sheltering in place at the moment, but I’m hoping to raise funds to allow them to evacuate to western Ukraine or into Hungary in case Russian troops continue to advance. Some Russian reports indicate that they will reach my sister’s city within a couple of days. Even if these reports are exaggerated and Russian advancement is stopped, the cost of living is already rising beyond sustainable levels. My sister is a realtor, and my brother-in-law is an entrepreneur with a small business (largely a one-man operation) of manufacturing thermal doors and windows. Needless to say, their sources of income have ceased to exist.
A blessing in the midst of this, is that my mother was able to visit me in December and is still here. I canceled her return flight yesterday so she can continue to remain safely with me, my wife and our two kids (soon to be three.) I thank God for his mercy and presence!
Please, help by contributing what you can to show support and offer hope to my family who remains in Ukraine.
Thank you and may the Lord bless you with peace and comfort in your times of trouble.
