We’re a working family trying to handle a situation we haven’t been able to solve on our own, and we don’t have a large support network to turn to.

Our son is a young adult who lives with severe anxiety. Recently, he suffered the loss of someone very close to him, and it’s been a difficult period for him emotionally.

One of the few consistent sources of support for him has been a small group of online friends. He stays in contact with them through Discord and gaming. These are people he talks with regularly, plays games with, and relies on for social connection when things are difficult.

For someone dealing with anxiety, that connection has become important in his day-to-day life.

The Problem

His current computer is no longer reliable. It has been repaired many times over the past year, but at this point it:

1. crashes frequently
2. struggles to run games consistently
3. often disconnects or freezes during calls or gameplay

This makes it difficult for him to reliably stay connected with the people he talks to every day. We’ve tried to extend its life as long as possible, but it has reached the end of what it can reasonably do.

What we're trying to do

We are raising funds to purchase a Steam Deck so he can continue staying connected with his friends in a stable and portable way.

We considered other options, including used laptops and desktop computers, but the Steam Deck is currently the most affordable option that can reliably run the games he plays and support voice chat without the ongoing issues his current setup has.

This isn’t about upgrading or convenience, it’s about replacing something that no longer works with something stable enough to keep him connected.

We’re a working family. We’re not part of assistance programs, and we’re not in an emergency crisis situation. We’re simply trying to solve a problem we can’t currently afford to fix on our own. We understand this is not a medical necessity. We’re not presenting it as one. It’s about maintaining a social connection that has been genuinely helpful for him during a difficult time.
