My name is Chris... I was walking and I am not exaggerating when I say I was drawn to knock on her door. By the time I had made up a reason for knocking since I had already done so, I heard a small, distant kind voice say "come in." I slowly opened the door and said "hello!" Again she said come in and I replied "you don't know me." She said "that's fine, come in."

As I proceeded into the house, I couldn't help but notice the odor and the fact that the floors appeared to be soiled in what I found out was rat secretions. Then around the corner was an older lady, probably in her 70s.

She was sitting in the dark and looked thrilled to have company. Perhaps fulfilling this need for her and giving her somebody to vent to was the reason I was drawn to the house. We talked for about an hour, and she told me the story of how she came to these circumstances. It was a very sad story and no fault of her own. Since moving into this tiny place, all her possessions, valuable or not, have slowly moved out of the house due to others. I find myself going over there multiple times a day to help, even when I don't know how to. On my way home today after going over there three or four times, I thought of posting this. My only goal on this site is for her to be able to have her place cleaned up, her sewage pipe reconnected, and possibly for her to be able to go out and get something nice, including some small pieces of jewelry. Because one of the things she mentioned was that all of her jewelry had been stolen, including the gold necklace her husband gave her. I've never done this before, and I'm not very good at it, but I hope, in some way, this gets you to help if you're able to.
