Hello, my name is Barbara, a physics student studying college online, and I am fundraising for my mother, Carolyn. She lives with me, my brother, and our adorable collie, Emmy. My mother has absolutely no money in her bank account, and she urgently needs to pay for the rent, water bill, and groceries. She also needs to go to the dentist as soon as possible for a tooth replacement, because she tripped and had a nasty fall a couple months ago, which caused her to lose her two front teeth. Also, her car was backed into by a careless truck driver, so she needs to pay for repairs.

My mother is 70 years old and is still working as an elementary school teacher. The school she works at is an hour's commute away from home (more in heavy traffic). It is also an extremely dangerous drive, and her car is not in good shape. It is a private school that does not pay very much, and it does not pay at all over the summer months. The conditions at the school she works at are brutal. There is no lunch break, and she is barely even given time for a drink of water. She would like to leave that school and start a business as a private tutor, but she needs money to live off of while she gets it started.

Our family has been financially struggling since 2020, when our father caught COVID-19. He could not work while sick, so we were evicted from our home and had to live in a hotel for three years, and we lost almost everything we owned. We could only keep what we could pack into our small car. My mother lost many treasured belongings she had since she was a child, which was emotionally devastating for her. Her husband (my father) died a few months later. Now that the jobs that my brother and I were working for our college have been terminated, her pay from the school is her only source of income.

My mother is an extremely caring person who would do anything to help anyone. She and my father spent years taking care of my grandmother after she had a stroke. It was 24 hours round the clock care, but my parents were determined to as my mother had promised my grandmother never to put her in a nursing home. She has also done so much for the children she has taught. She is a spectacular teacher. She has treated each and every one of her students like they were her own children.

My mother wants to be able to tutor from home, so she won't have it so hard. She would also like to move to a new home, but she cannot afford to. Due to the school not paying her over the summer, she needs assistance to even pay to live in the home she already has.
