Tom and Marie are missionaries in Thailand. Their job is unique because they are graphic designers and media specialists that support over a dozen other ministries under the Family Connection Foundation. Their work helps ministries to be approved by the Thai government and documents the work that everyone else is doing. To accomplish this, they travel with their cameras and production equipment over about 75% of the country. Currently, they travel by bus (dangerous), train (thefts), or car (not currently possible).
Last year, they were given a car that is 24 years old. Here's Marie's comments on the car:
This car is a huge blessing to us. It was given to me free of cost a year ago by some generous friends who were moving back to the States, knowing it is easier to drive a car than a motorbike in Thailand. Being a 24 year old car, it has its quirks to drive. However, it has been increasingly breaking down and needing repairs. Soon we will have paid more to fix it than it would’ve cost to buy. Currently, it needs a new transmission, radiator, front fender and an air con over haul. We drive knowing that it could break down at any point.
Marie: We would love a car we could drive without fear of a breakdown, one that could handle the mountain driving required anywhere outside the city of Chiang Mai, with a capacity to haul both us and any photography/videography equipment we need to complete a job. While we don’t travel outside the city often, the ability to drive ourselves rather than taking a bus would provide us with greater freedoms to take jobs farther out and gather the footage we want. Would you consider joining with us and our ministry to missionaries in Thailand in contributing to the purchase of a new-to-us car?
They need a car badly. Cars in Thailand are expensive. Their current support is not sufficient to fund their living expenses AND provide for a car. A car that is 8-10 years old would be about $10,000. This car would carry them, their equipment, and any team members that they take along.
Please pray about this need, share this page, and contribute if you can.
