I’m long overdue for an update on Don! The first two weeks of radiation and chemotherapy are going well. So far no nausea, but he continues to be fatigued. The Oncology Dr did have to increase his steroids due to increased brain swelling which is affecting his speech. Don did successfully switch his anti-seizure
We have prayerfully decided to raise our fundraiseinf goal. Our actual copay for radiation treatments (30) has more than tripled from the hospital's original estimate. While we are extremely blessed at having medical insurance there still are many co-pays fior each Dr.visit, every single medication, acupuncture treatments, and hospital and medical bills that we still have to pay despite having insurance. All of these things are adding up very quickly. And also, to ensure a smooth transition from full time employment to potentional disability.
In my role as caregiver, I honestly struggle driving Don to his 11 weekly medical appointments and keeping up with the house (cooking and cleaning), laundry, and getting our 4 daughters to their activities on a daily basis. I have broken down and finally hired a cleaning service to help with the cleaning part and it has been a huge relief!
We are beyond thankful for the meal train (https://www.mealtrain.com/trains/2qzwdm), the gift cards, the donations, the cards, the reaching out, the multitude of prayers, and most of all your Love. The gratitude we feel is overwhelming. It is through the strength of our Faith and the Community of all of you that we are getting through this. We believe strongly that we serve a Good, Faithful Father that has a good purpose for Everything.
We found this article which is 100% EXACTLY what we are going through! Such great details. https://www.nursingcenter.com/journalarticle?Article_ID=1545821&Journal_ID=828525&Issue_ID=1545410.
With Love and So much Gratitude,
Don, Amy, Emily, Jenna , Madelyn, and Grace
Overall Don is pain free and feeling good. Chemo and Radiation will start on October 10th. We are focused on taking one day at a time and making it count!
We cannot begin to describe how grateful we are for every single one of you . The prayers, the reaching out, the generous donations, the food, the Love, help us in so many ways. We love You.❤️
Welcome to our fundraiser page on behalf of the Cain family*.
First, thank you for taking the time to stop by, and pause from your life to be a part of another's life.
What a beautiful community the Cain family has; whether as realtives, church family, friends from school, or work.
Thank you for reading their story. Looking at their pictures. We are so grateful for you all, joining together in Caring for the Cains.
So MANY of you have said things like:
How can I pray? What do they need? Do they need help with the girls, with school? Is anyone with Amy at the hospital? Do they need meals? What about a house cleaning, would that help? Back and forth to the hospital and Dr.s so much, would gift cards be good? If so, what kinds? What is happening with the medical bills, inscurance, Don's job? Wasn't Amy about to start working too? Are the girls ok? Do they need anything?
Whew...where to begin?
Basically...yes to it all. Life has, in a way, halted as the Cain's knew it. And yet, life also keeps marching on. They are adjusting to a new, hard normal. At least for now, and the near future, life is looking very different for them.
WHAT CAN I DO? How can I help?
*housecleaning (approx $150)
*giftcards for personal use
*giftcards to give away to Dr.'s, nurses, physical therapy, or friends helping drive the girls places, as "thank you's"
*finacial gifts to help with co-pays for everything from the surgery, tests, perscriptions, therapies--LOTS OF MEDICAL EXPENSES!
*meals, there is a Meal Train set up through our local chuch. Point of Contact: Courtney Plevniak-- https://mealtrain.com/2qzwdm
*How to PRAY? UPDATES to Don's progress will be posted to Caring Bridge: https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/doncain
*co-workers are looking to donate days off to Don, so he may recover, as he will run out of leave -How amazing is that!?
*Pray over the insc. company--as they need favor to cover ALL that is needed. And more, let's pray for MORE! But honestly, the insc. can be a huge source of frustration. So please pray about that with us?
These are just a few ideas. Please know that the Cain's are in for a marathon, and their journey to Don healing has just begun.
It is our hope and prayer to come alongside this precious family and carry some of this burden, with them.
Thank you for considering how you can be a part. Truly, it is not a small thing. Caring for others is the most beautiful thing any of us can ever do. It is the most beautiful gift!
If you are reading this and have walked a similar journey, what helped you? What did you need, that we have not even thought of? What would you want, if you were in a similar situation?
We love you dear Cain family. "Love Shows Up!" We are showing up for you and know that Jesus is showing up for you even MORE than we could ask or imagine!
We have a saying that, once you are in our home, share a meal with us...well, you become FAMILY! That's just how it is.
Love, Jenn Stovall and family
