ABOUT CONNOR
In November 2020, Connor came home for winter break after his first semester at UNC Wilmington and never returned. He started showing symptoms of arthritis, confusion, being mentally drained, and this was only the beginning. After two years of symptoms getting worse and worse everyday, Connor is now 100% disabled. He is unable to complete the simplest of daily tasks like walking, dressing himself, opening doors, etc. Thankfully we found a strong enough pain medicine that has allowed him to be able to function around the house in the meantime while we’ve been trying every treatment we can find to cure him but nothing has worked. All of this is due to a combination of infections in his blood, originating from Lyme disease.
Over the last two years, Connor has been to a variety of doctors including pediatrics, lyme specialist, hematology, chiropractic, integrative functional medicine, traditional chinese medicine, and rheumatology just to name a few. Both rheumatologists say while he has certain autoimmune responses, his profile does not fit the mold for either rheumatoid or psoriatic arthritis. Studies show that if we do this now he has a 70% chance of his condition being completely healed with normalization of his lab findings.
THE DISEASE
This fundraiser is to raise money for Connor to travel to the St. George Clinic in Germany and spend four weeks receiving treatments for chronic arthritic Lyme disease and its associated co-infections. It is also referred to as Multiple Systemic Infectious Disease Syndrome (MSIDS). These other co-infections are bacterias, viruses, molds, and other pathogens medically proven to have settled in his body affecting multiple body systems.
Examples of these lab-verified pathogens found in Connor's blood include babesia, bartonella, streptococcus, Ehrlichiosis, mycoplasma pneumonia, anaplasm, and Epstein Barr. In addition to the debilitating Lyme, these co-infections create their own set of problems. One example is he currently has strep leaking into his brain which is eating away at his brain cells causing a vast range of psychological symptoms that can cause permanent brain damage if it's not fixed soon. In addition to the fevers, severe arthritic pain, and fatigue, Connor has lost over 50 pounds in the last two years and also suffers from memory loss, psoriasis, sleep disorders, migraines, brain fog, and tremors just to name a few. It’s pivotal we heal him soon because he is on the verge of developing an autoimmune response to the co-infections in his body which has a chance to permanently disable him and change his quality of life forever. We pray Connor still has the chance to make a full recovery and is one reason we are trying to get this done as soon as possible.
THE TREATMENT
The treatment is a multi-modal approach. The Lyme bacteria would be killed using whole-body hyperthermia in conjunction with IV antibiotic therapy. This is when you heat the body to a temperature above what Lyme can tolerate and it is killed. Any leftover Lyme is killed by administering IV antibiotics while Connor is artificially driven into a high fever. Lyme is proven to be killed at temperatures greater than 106.5 degrees so he would be sedated and heated to a temperature of 107 degrees for 3-4 hours. This would be done twice over two weeks with restorative IVs, drainers, and detoxifiers in the week between treatments. These treatments have been performed and proven effective for Lyme for over 20 years yet are not FDA approved here in the USA. Other protocols to clean the blood for associated co-infections involve photodynamic and plasmapheresis therapy which is also not provided here in the United States for Chronic Lyme Disease and its associated co-infections.
