Bill and Rae need your prayers and support these next few weeks as they prepare for the next phase, or as they like to call it, their next “adventure” of life.
Back in the late 1980s, Bill and Rae had a motorcycle accident that broke Bill’s ankle and leg. Through the years, it never healed correctly or fully. Six unsuccessful surgeries later (including an ankle replacement), the pain has become unbearable.
After considering the remaining options, amputation of the foot and part of the leg appears to be the best option. It was a difficult decision, but it seems to be the only option that will address the crippling pain, which is daily growing more severe.
The surgery will take place on August 13. Bill should be able to come home about two weeks later. About a month and a half after the surgery, he can get fitted for a prosthesis and hopefully transition into a routine with much less pain.
When I (Christy) thought about how much of an impact that Mom and Dad have had on my life, I realized it wasn’t just me. Through the years, their love & generosity has impacted so many. During this time, I’m trying to show them my love and appreciation for all they’ve done for me. But it occurred to me that OTHERS might also want the opportunity to get involved as well.
How can YOU help?
First, and most importantly, PRAY. Please pray that the Lord will help them and strengthen them each step of this new path HE is taking them.
Second, you can GIVE. There are going to be hundreds of unplanned expenses during the next few months. For a couple who have a fixed income, these expenses become overwhelming. From the costs of eating out and transportation to see doctors to needing the equipment to provide mobility, the expenses will quickly mount. Every gift given will make a difference and help ease the financial burden of this season.
Third, send ENCOURAGEMENT to them. Send a note, post encouragement on Facebook, or do something to let them know that they are not alone in this journey. Community matters!
Thank you so much for walking this road with us!
