'The only impossible journey is the one you never begin.' Four years ago, I impulsively signed up for a short term mission trip to Uganda that was being lead by a friend. I was hooked by the promise of adventure and for the opportunity to do some good in the world. I though I was going over to help underprivileged children and make a difference. I couldn't have been more wrong. It was the people I met in Jinja who changed my life completely. The kids I worked with taught me to see my world through new eyes. I learned to laugh and dance in each moment, and celebrate each day for the gift it is. I created valuable friendships with the local staff and volunteers, whom have become some of my greatest allies and advisers in life. Sometimes, the random, irrational choices we make in life lead us to the best places. We only need the courage to take that leap.
Earlier this year, I took an even bigger leap. As many of you know, I now live in Jinja, Uganda, having followed the call to serve the youth here full-time. When I boarded the plane in January, I thought I was returning for a once in a lifetime chance to spend a year abroad. I had planned to volunteer on a free-lance basis for a few different organizations close to my heart as an English tutor/mentor/bible study leader. Once again, God's plans for me were so much bigger than I could ever have imagined. After a good friend unexpectedly returned home to the States for medical care, I now find myself serving in her behalf as Interim Manager for Abundant Life Ministries. This incredible camping ministry uses education, life skills training, games and mentoring relationships to aid students to grow into who God created them to be, so they can experience the fullness of life He has to offer them. I've agreed to extend my commitment for the next several years, or as long as it takes for the founder to return. And it all began with one small leap.
Will you join me on this journey? We can help make a difference. In Uganda, the opportunity for education is the difference between a future of hope or a life of poverty. One caring adult to foster child’s development and motivate them toward success can make a lasting impact. A single monthly donation can help keep me on the ground, and help keep this ministry moving forward. Will you partner with me? A gift of $10, $20 or $50 a month goes a long way in the world of missions. I could never make this happen without the support of amazing donors like you.
These services bring so much joy and hope to the kids. Together we are transforming lives and building better futures- but without you, it wouldn't be possible. Will you consider partnering with me, financially and prayerfully? It is such a blessing knowing you are praying for me, our team, and our students. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for your much needed support. <3
