What is UpEnd? God has a radically different value system than we do. Repeatedly in the Bible, the greatest in God’s kingdom is not the strongest, richest, or best; the greatest is the least, the humble, the poor, and the servant. He "upends" our cultural norms and economic system, reminding us that social class and financial status are not legitimate value indicators. In fact, God has a special promise for those in need, "A father of the fatherless, and a judge of the widows, is God in his holy habitation" (Psalm 68:5).
Ever since I was a teen, I have had this dream to help kids, specifically orphans. I was raised on stories of people with great faith who gave of themselves to help others. Years passed and that burden to help kids has always been in the back of my mind. I've wondered how God would use that dream, and in the past six months I've started pursuing it. Although I don't have everything figured out yet, I have my next steps and I'm beyond excited to begin!
This October I'll be flying to Thailand for three weeks.
Week 1: I will receive training for working with vulnerable children, and attend the "World Without Orphans" Global Forum, a worldwide church conference that connects and equips believers in serving orphans.
Weeks 2‑3: In Isaan, Thailand, I will volunteer teach English at the local school as well as help out with Muay Thai at the local gym, Wor Watthana, where many of the village kids train. The gym is run by an amazing couple who have dedicated their lives to providing a safe place for the children of Isaan. I've admired their work from afar for a few years, so I'm really excited to be getting involved!
Here's where you come in. God has already answered specific prayers and provided in some really awesome ways, but there's more help needed. The course ($175), the conference ($500), plane ticket ($567), and living expenses for those three weeks will be roughly $1500. More importantly, Wor Watthana is in desperate need of a new facility. They've outgrown their current space and need to expand! They are currently in the middle of raising money to build a new facility. The need is great.
Would you consider prayerfully and financially supporting me in this endeavor? Prayer is a necessity, and financial support is also greatly appreciated. Not only will you be supporting me as I move forward in this area of ministry, you will be providing the kids of Isaan with education, community, and a safe place to train and grow. With that in mind, 25% of donations to this campaign will help cover my travel expenses and 75% will go to the building of Wor Watthana’s new gym!
As a thank-you gift, each person who donates $35 or more will receive a T-shirt specifically designed for this project! The shirt features my favorite Chinese saying “扭轉乾坤” which means "to turn the world upside down.” (Read Acts 17 for the spiritual significance of this phrase.)
Thank you for your prayers and support!
