My daughters are being forced to give up their chickens and their farm fresh eggs. We got these chickens because everyone else in town has them and we thought it would be a good experience for our girls. Unfortunately this has turned into something traumatic. These are the only eggs they are willing to eat. They think the store eggs are gross and look funny. We need help with my legal fees for my pending cases. I have encouraged other families in my town to speak out and I have attempted to amend or get rid of the city ordinance banning chickens in city limits. This has caused retaliation and intimidation by the city council, the mayor, and city clerk via law enforcement. We have been ostracized by our neighbors and I have had to install a 6 foot privacy fence on the perimeter of my property. I have been charged with misdemeanor citations for my chickens while others have never had any issues, we have been singled out in these trying times.
I was in court for the first time on September 22, 2021. The judge would not accept my guilty plea under duress and the acting prosecutor covered my microphone and told me I should take it to trial. A “not guilty plea” was entered for me. My last court date was May 18, 2022. I entered my plea and my next court date is in the beginning of August. It has become very clear that the city council, the mayor, and city clerk have turned this into a personal vendetta against my family. My daughters are devastated at the news that we are going to get rid of their feathered friends and yummy eggs.
I have called a lot of different lawyers and I have been quoted a lot of prices from $500 to $10,000. The officers have been to our home almost a dozen times since this all started. We literally just moved here and everyone else has had their chickens for decades without any citations. I just want to do right by my family and stand up for our rights against these people. I have horrible panic attacks dealing with the court and the constant fear has been paralyzing. I love my daughters even more than they love their chickens and their eggs. We are one big happy family. We need our chickens now more than ever with the price of eggs and food shortages. My daughters, our chickens and I are eternally grateful for any support you can give.
