In the summer of 2018 the Lord brought me to Reynosa, Mexico, as an intern for Isaiah 55 Minsitries. Working in the neighborhood of Aquiles Serdan I had the privilege of loving and serving one of the poorest communities in Reynosa, sharing Christ's love with people who were disenfranchised and often openly despised by their city and region.
This year, beginning in May, I will be back in Mexico working with Isaiah 55 in a longer-term intern /short-term staff capacity. Working directly with the new group of college-age interns who will be at the mission this summer, I will have the opportunity to love and disciple them as I was loved and discipled before them. In addition to walking through daily life at the mission with the summer interns I will be helping to lead construction, beautification, and community-building projects with the volunteer teams that will be visiting in June and July. Our projects and activities will include repairing and painting mission buildings and neighborhood sports facilities, filling potholes, hosting a neighborhood arts night, Vacation Bible School, and community center nights of soccer, art classes, and games.
As I follow God’s call to serve with Isaiah 55 in Mexico I would ask that you consider supporting me in the work of sharing the gospel. Working with this mission team I have the amazing privilege of serving as Christ’s hands and feet, building relationships and caring for a community. I invite you to partner with me in service through prayer and financial support.
Please pray that God will provide the necessary funds in time for my departure in May. Pray that I will adjust well to the daily routines of the mission and to the culture and language differences. Pray for grace, patience, love, and joy in the growth of Christian community among mission staff and between us and the neighborhood we are seeking to serve. Most importantly, pray for the gospel of Jesus Christ to go forth and take root in hearts throughout the neighborhood and city; pray that the presence of the Holy Spirit would be felt and the beauty and truth of God’s love would continue to push back darkness.
During my time in Reynosa my travel costs and monthly expenses and will be funded entirely by donations from individuals and Churches. For the summer, May through August, I have a fundraising goal of $8,500 to meet my needs and I humbly ask for your help. Will you prayerfully consider giving to support the work that God allows us to do this summer? Please feel free to contact me via email with questions about Isaiah 55, my summer plans, donating, or just to chat. My contact information is listed below.
Whether you choose to give support through prayer or financial contribution, thank you. Thank you for your prayers, for sharing your resources, and for taking the time to read about this exciting way that we have to serve God and pursue His kingdom.
Grace and Peace,
About Isaiah 55:
In case you are unfamiliar with the organization, Isaiah 55 is a Christian mission in Reynosa, Mexico whose primary object is to serve the deaf and disenfranchised in the city. To that end they have established and support two schools for the deaf, one academically focused and one vocational. They also run a community center, sewing classes, and look to someday assist a local congregation in planting a church in their neighborhood, Aquiles Serdan. “Come everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and he who has no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy? Listen diligently to me, and eat what is good, and delight yourselves in rich food. Incline your ear, and come to me; hear, that your soul may live; and I will make with you an everlasting covenant, my steadfast sure love for David.” Isaiah 55: 1-3
