I am writing on behalf of the Ferkelak family and their family style orphanage. It is no secret that Ukraine has a massive problem with a large number of orphans and abandoned children. In order to combat this, Ukraine has a system of what we call Family style orphanages. These families are those willing to take on the responsibility of adopting up to 15 children. The government orphanages are overflowing, lack resources, and become almost a direct path to lives of criminal missteps, drug addiction, prostitution, and human trafficking. The children in the orphanages are invariably abused and feel as if they are unwanted and worthless.
Family orphanages are one of the best solutions, the children find a loving home a place of belonging, and role models for pick up the broken pieces of their young lives.
One such couple that has laid down their lives for these children are Pavel and Tanya Ferkalak. Pavel is the Senior Pastor of a local church plant and has planted two other thriving churches prior to his current church. Church planting, raising 14 children, working on a master degree, and doing evangelism; most people would call Pasha (as he's known) 'crazy,' and perhaps they are right. He is crazy in love with Jesus and crazy in love with living out his relationship with Christ in a tangible way. Tanya is a mother that most people only dream of becoming. Firm and kind, thoughtful and caring, the orphans who become her sons and daughters are truly blessed.
Following God's calling on their lives to plant a new church, they have moved to Kremenchuk, Ukraine. But setting up a new orphanage is no easy task. A partially finished home was donated to them, and they have spent all of their minuscule salaries to make it a livable home. There is only $20,000 left to go for it to be ready.
Imagine that with only $20,000 an orphanage can move in ready. Sounds almost absurd, the last 20,000 is all that will be needed to finish.
What can be done is simple. Please seek the Lord's leading on your heart to give. Could you give $100, $500, or even $1,000 make a home for these orphans? It is a small thing to us American's but an amazing life-changing gift to these abandoned children.
To God be glory.
