Defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed. - Ps 82:3
Dear beloved family and friends,
I pray and hope this message finds you well. It has been on my heart since I was 16 years old to serve God on mission in Africa. I didn't know when and where. And for many years’ missionaries encouraged me to go, but the timing and door was never opened. In these past few weeks, I believe God is calling me to serve on a short-term mission trip to Zambia. I recently graduated from university and currently applying for work. I want to use this time in my life between school and work to invest passionately in people that are extremely broken and in need of God’s healing love. Some facts about Zambia. There are currently 1.6 million orphans in Zambia, the highest per capita in the world. In Lusaka, 75,000 children are living on the street. This is where the poorest of the poor live.
There is currently a Coptic Christian missionary base there that I am in contact with that serve over 300 orphans through their school. St. Abanoub Christian School currently has three campuses. They are a community that is intentional about loving these children. They are a true family that fosters the love of God. In addition, the missionary base has all kinds of ministries that serve through outreach to prisons, villages, and local marketplaces. They also run a hospital that serves the community at large. The mission is always in need of laborers. As Jesus said, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” I desire with all my heart to be counted worthy to be one of these workers.
I cannot begin to fathom at the work of God in these areas. I would be exceedingly grateful and humbled beyond measure to take part in the work of God in Zambia. Orphans and widows. The stranger and the oppressed. The poor and the weak. I desire to love, host, and give with all that I am. I desire to pour out my life in the life of these people. I desire to proclaim good news to the poor. To bind up the brokenhearted. To proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners. To comfort all who mourn and provide for those who grieve. To bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. Because that’s what Christ has done for me.
Please pray that God would guide and lead me to serve Him with humility and sincerity of heart. To be used as a catalyst of love to such impoverished areas in the world would be an incredible honor that I simply do not deserve. But God is magnified in the weak. And has used the foolish things of this world to shame the wise. And I have no doubt he can use our five loaves and two fish to bless multitudes. I am inviting you to join in this work. You can do this by lifting me up through your heartfelt prayers to God. That He would be the one always leading me in every thought, decision, and action. I know that God will empower me through your heartfelt prayers. And if you feel God has put it on your heart after reading this letter, and you are willing, you can join this work also through your generous financial support. Any contribution helps to make this mission possible. Thank you for your time. God reward you abundantly for joining this great work, whether through your prayers and/or generous financial support! God bless you.
With love and grace,
