Hello dear friends,
Thank you for taking the time to read this message and consider this fundraiser. And, thank you to those who have supported me previously with work here in Guatemala. It is amazing how the world can change so quickly, how quickly a flu-like pandemic can change the global economy and so quickly change the way we go about our daily lives.
My original return date to the U.S. was March 31st. However, The situation in Guatemala is not any different than the rest of the world and it has caused a change in plans. Many people are in fear, and many people do not know what is coming next. Due to a complete national quarantine, churches are not permitted to gather, businesses aside from the most essential have been forced closed, and the population has been ordered to stay home for an unknown length of time. In addition, the border has been closed. No one is permitted to enter or leave the country until at least the beginning of April. And, airlines are suspending their flights to and from Guatemala and the U.S. until potentially early May. Therefore, returning earlier means that even if the borders to open back up on time, it will take being creative to travel back. The airline that my original ticket is booked with is confirmed to be suspending all flights to this region until at least May 6th, so even if flights are available from other carriers on a different route, it will require the purchase of an expensive plane ticket if I need to return earlier. Other carriers are saying late April is when flights will resume.
Contributing to this fundraiser includes:
In the midst of this time, my expenses back in the states and here in Guatemala do not end. Contriburing to this fundraiser will cover my basic financial commitments both here in Guatemala, and in the U.S. including my monthly rent, utilities, transportation, food, and insurance costs. I am confident that God will provide for these needs.
What have I been doing over the last 3 months?
Over the last few months I have been following up with pastors that participated in an intense training in January and working with the missions team at my home church in Arizona to potentially develop a follow up training in the future (please contact me for specific details). We have also developed a Biblical Worldview training to be conducted with 30 additional pastors that was supposed to take place this coming week. It has been postponed until this pandemic settles a little due to government restrictions and health concerns. However, I will be exploring opportunities to do some training remotely or prepare those who were facilitating to handle my portions during my absence if I am no longer in country during the projects execution.
P.S. The platform I use is free, the only cost is to use their bank to process the payment and this is very minimal. During the processing of your payment, you can choose to donate a few dollars to this platform if you'd like to support their effort to allow people like me to fundraise at lower costs.
