We look to the future with great anticipation. King David could not have said it any better: “Lord, You are my portion and my cup of blessing; You hold my future.” Psalms 16:5.

The journey began:
It been almost 4 years since I started deliberately praying for God to reveal His purpose for my life. This is what I’ve learned. When I pursue Him in His fullness with the same zeal that He pursued me with in my brokenness....I am in perfect peace.
We rejoice that God has revealed a path forward in His plan for us! The next steps have continued to become clear as we have prayed and sought wise counsel. Amy and I look with great anticipation to the future, as we continue to seek out God's plan for our lives. We don't know exactly what it will look like, but saying “YES!” to Him IS the plan! After a great deal of prayer and research I have enrolled in Regent University’s Seminary to pursue a Master of Divinity.
Pieces have come together as I was nominated in 2017 to take a special leadership course at Brentwood Baptist Church (where I continue to serve as Executive Chef/Food Service Director). The TNT course ignited a fire and zeal for discipleship. This passion for learning about God and His Word has only gained impetus with time. We are putting feet to what we have learned as we disciple several 20-something young people, serve at our church (World Outreach in Murfreesboro) teaching three-year-old nursery and participating as small group leaders. We are thankful for the mentors that God has brought to teach us and we find great joy in serving. We have grown in our faith and understanding as God has continued to bring people into our lives who need godly teaching, listening ears and wise, loving counsel. What a privilege!
When the idea of seminary came, it seemed too big…a vision of grandeur…too radical a change in life direction. As I continued to pray and seek God’s face, it has become more and more clear that HE is prompting me toward seminary. Every time I tried to walk away from the idea…my heart was troubled and I grew more and more anxious. For both Amy and I, this step has taken a growing willingness to yield our ideas about the future to GOD’S IDEAS for us. God has gently helped us to work through our own individual fears and hang-ups as He has made us of one mind on the subject. We are both full of joy in walking forward into this next step!
I am enrolled in school for this next semester,
starting January 2019. Although the thought of seminary is exciting, it is intimidating at the same time. Even with the certainty that it is His plan....it is not a decision that I have taken lightly.
One of our greatest concerns about this plan is…school isn’t free! Each semester will cost approximately $3,500. I have applied for grants and scholarships and we are pursuing every avenue we can find to harness our resources. But we cannot do it on our own! We are setting up this crowdfunding website so that people can choose to be a part of what God is doing in our lives! The need is both financial and spiritual. We need prayer! We need people to come alongside us!
"He will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast because they trust in him."

I am not taking classes this summer, so we are focusing our extra time and energies on getting our house prepared and organized so that whatever God calls us to do…we will be ready! This summer has been a season of reconnecting with friends and family. A couple that we have become good friends with invited us to spend a week with them in Destin Florida. What a blessing that was! We were certainly in need of refreshing. t is amazing how God provides for us in our times of need.

Even though I am not taking classes, I continue to learn new things. As a seminary student, it is important that I remain humble in my pursuit of God’s calling on my life. Every day I pray for Him to show me something new and He continues to illuminate my blind spots. More specifically, The Holy Spirit has impressed on my heart the value of relationship in discipleship. Jesus did not merely regurgitate scripture or follow scripted lessons. He taught by using real life situations and circumstances.

My first semester flew by and at the end of it I realize that the community of believers that God has put in my life supported me emotionally, spiritually, physically, and financially. My life is so much richer because of the outpouring of my brothers and sisters in Christ. My first semester was a success because of that support and this truth reinforces what God has been teaching me.

When I begin my second semester on August 26th, I will be taking New Testament Survey and Biblical Hermeneutics in two eight-week segments. New Testament Survey will be covered in the first eight weeks and is an in-depth study of the New Testament and will teach me about authorship and origins of the twenty-seven books. Hermeneutics will be covered in the second eight weeks. Hermeneutics is “the interpretive study of literature.” Thus, Biblical Hermeneutics is the literary study of the Bible. This course will also focus on techniques of proper interpretation. I am super excited about both of these classes. My goal is to do excellent work and earn A’s again this semester.

Update #3
July 9, 2019, 11:08 pm

Greetings, Friends!!
Thank you so much for your generous help and for being a part of what God is doing in our lives!! Your willingness to support us reinforces our sense of calling. Because of the generosity shown by family and friends, I was able to complete my first semester at Regent University’s Seminary as I pursue a Master of Divinity. Now that my first semester is in the books, I can breathe and wanted to take this opportunity to update you on my progress in school.
It has been a very busy time for us. The semester started with a bang, as dear friends of ours needed help and support while walking through a life-altering medical procedure. My first two weeks as a seminary student consisted of 5 AM start times and 12 PM end times. I worked, studied and spent my evenings in the hospital, where our friend was staying. God blessed us by putting us in a position to walk along-side our friends, while making some amazing, new friends in the process. I love how serving the Lord brings people together! One thing we learned along the way is that ministering to others can sometimes mean just showing up. Ministry is not something that can be learned solely by reading theology books and studying the Bible. God calls us to action!
Things quieted down after the first couple of weeks, and I was able to focus on my studies. I am thankful to have earned A’s in both classes this semester. The first class was a two-credit University Writing Lab. It was a required pass/fail course, but I was determined to achieve A-quality work. Homework for this class stretched me as I was challenged to bring my writing skills up to graduate-level quality. The second class was Foundations of Spiritual Formation, a standard three-credit course. This course was intense--on many levels--as I examined the roots of my own faith and worked to understand how God has led me through every step in my journey. Homework consisted of a dozen or so assignments that involved a lot of writing and personal analysis as I completed the final project, a portfolio that explores my spiritual journey thus far. These assignments were formatted into one immense document and handed in at the end of the session. There were also daily disciplines that we were asked to implement and class collaborative sessions where we were able to share our stories. The professor for Spiritual Formation taught me to be more intentional in how I practice being in God’s presence every day.
were given the opportunity to attend a Family Life Marriage Conference and came away encouraged and strengthened. We realize that our marriage needs to be strong and a priority as we guard it against the attacks of the enemy. began leading a small-group in our home and have continued volunteering in the WOC nursery and participating--as we’re able--in another WOC small group in Tullahoma. We have had the privilege of meeting for one-on-one discipleship with several young people. God also has been doing some remarkable things in the lives of our family members…healing, deliverance and movement we have prayed for over many years. We don’t always get to see the seeds bloom…but we seek to be faithful in planting…loving and discipling the people God has put in our lives.
We look to the future with great anticipation. King David could not have said it any better: “Lord, You are my portion and my cup of blessing; You hold my future.” Psalms 16:5.

Amy and I are so overwhelmed by how we have seen God provide through YOU for this first semester of school! The professors posted modules online before the class start-date, so I was able to get ahead of the game from the beginning. This was a huge blessing because we were called to help a friend and were out of pocket for a week! God keeps calling us out into new opportunities to walk as intercessors and be the hands and feet of Christ as we love on people. School is very important, but these opportunities to operate in service to the church and kingdom are invaluable training for both of us. Your prayer support and financial help make all this possible…and we see God answering your prayers every day! Thank you!! Thank you!! Thank you!!!!

Update #1

A week….and we’re half-way to our first semester goal of $3,500!! Praise God!!! Admitting that we need help is hard; but God’s people (that’s you) responded with an outpouring of generosity that strengthens our faith.
This whole thing is an exercise in trusting Our Father. This is a bigger step of faith than any we have taken before. God has been challenging us to come out of our “comfort zone.” Stepping out in faith is typically not comfortable or easy. Time and time again God has provided when we have honored Him with our resources, time and energy. This journey is the next level of adventure with Him!
Commit your way to the Lord,
Trust also in Him,
And He shall bring IT to pass.

—Psalms 37:5 NKJV
