Dying in Silence and Alone
When someone has a diagnosis of Cancer, Alzheimers, Heart Attack, Stroke, Coronavirus and such - the world around the person is full of compassion and love, and are ready to jump in to help meet the family's needs.
What happens to the one's with diagnosis of mental illness or Chronic Pain? Those with a diagnosis of something with no cure, something that cannot be seen? The world around is callous and not moved.
Living with mental illness is hard and living in Chronic Pain with no cure, little hope of any medical procedure that can help, is devastating and financially devastating.
To the person suffering, they would nearly welcome a diagnosis with a terminal diagnosis - at least then, they know their suffering will end in the near future.
After being on Social Security Disability from 2005 to 2013, Pamela fought to get her life back and to once again be a productive member of society. She refused to be dependent on the Government. After a total of 15 Surgeries - she managed to go back to work, full time.
Unfortunately, this has come to an end. Her mental and emotional health has dwindled over the last few years. Her physical health has deteriorated. After a failed suicide attempt in June, she forced herself back to work. Her Physical and Mental Health have continued to decline, finally forcing her out of a job.
Pamela has numerous medical conditions. The most severe is Degenerative Disc Disease that has now progressed to Cervical Stenosis to 8mm and Thoracic Stenosis to 9mm. Doctors are unable to see Spinal Compression due to Artifacts on images from the plate and screws already in her neck from a Tri-Level Cervical Fusion in 2009. Her Spinal Cord is likely compressed but without a life threatening situation, Doctors do not want to attempt any surgery. Pamela has several Blood Clotting Disorders and has had numerous Pulmonary Embolisms and Deep Vein Clots. She is supposed to be on Xarelto for life, but is currently not taking it, as she cannot afford the cost.
The Clotting Disorders make her a very high risk for any type of surgery.
Pamela's diagnosis include SEVERE Cervical and Thoracic Joint Facet Disease. This is a very painful condition. It is Arthrosis (Arthritis) of the spine, and she has it in every Facet Joint (Vertebrae) in her neck and mid back. She has it in every vertebrae, and both sets in her neck, and every vertebra from T1 to T12 in her mid back on the left side.
Additionally, she also has TWO herniated disc at T1-T2 and T3-T4.
As a result, she is in constant pain. There is no end in sight. There is no terminal diagnosis to let her know, the suffering will end. It just goes on and on.
Her lower back, has not been evaluated as of now, but will be soon. Doctors suspect, it is just as bad along with her knees and hips.
Pamela and her husband are attempting to sell everything they can in order to make their house payments and meet their Medical Needs. Her husband, Nathan has Fabry's disease. This is a very serious disease however, Nathan manages to work 50+ hours a week. He just doesn't make enough on his own to manage all their needs.
Pamela will be meeting with a Bankruptcy Attorney to explore their options.
Pamela and Nathan took in 2 boys and raised them as their own. Pamela and Nathan have allowed numerous people to live with them through the years because they were homeless and needed a home. Pamela and Nathan served on the Volunteer Fire Department, Pamela as Chaplain because of her love for people.
Pamela has taken people she did not know, Grocery and Clothes shopping because she saw a need. They gave an Automobile to someone in need because they were not using it. They help with gas, groceries, clothing and anything else to help others in need.
