My heart has been pulling me in this direction for a long time. I knew there was something missing. My desire to help others deepens each day. When an upcoming mission to Haiti was announced at church, I knew where I needed to go. This October I will be traveling to a small village with a group of ten people from my church. We all share the same passion to step out of our comfort zone and norms to serve others around the globe that are in great need.
The village of Cabaret is a largely displaced population of people, as a result of the 7.0 magnitude earthquake that shattered their nation back in 2010. After losing their homes and loved ones, these people were forced to reestablish their lives on the hillside about 45 minutes from Port au Prince. They lost everything; secure and safe place to live, hope, schools, family...everything.
Our leaders are returning for a second year. They said their lives have been changed forever. Their experience, too great to put down in words. We will be continuing our partnership with Vision Church and School. We’ll work with the children and families to show them the love others have in them, encouraging faith, from the love of God. Another important factor of our mission is to mission focus on the strongest needs of the community. Students attending school will be blessed with books written in Creole and English. We will help build a small supply room for classroom use, which will be filled with supplies for students. A big, but worthy goal is to build a restroom, very different from what we are used to, for the school.
We will bring medicines for those who suffer from headaches. Solar lights would be a blessing as they have minimal electricity in the community. The list of items goes on, but more importantly, we will grow in our faith together.
Friends and family, I and humbly asking for your help and support. The cost of the trip is $2000 per person. This amount covers airfare, transportation, housing, and meals when on the ground. We are also praying to host children so they can attend school. Our church currently hosts 12 children each year. The cost for them to attend is $200 per year. I am asking you to prayerfully consider if you can provide finances to support me in this calling on my heart. I am also hopeful that you include me, the team, the Haitian families, and the work to come in your prayers.
I truly thank you for your support. Please reach out if you have questions or are looking for other ways that you can get plugged into supporting our team.
