Thank you Father. I am so thankful for all that God has done as He has walked me through this time of returning safely and securely to the United States. When this trip began I heard God say to me, that he'd bring me home safely and that He'd provide exactly what I needed every step along the way. All I had to do was follow Him and trust. Now I don't think I have to tell you that moving Internationally can be very stressful and unsecuring. It is! Especially after so many years on the mission field. You think, “Whats next? Where am I going to live? Can I even live on my social security back in the states anymore”? My mind and thoughts were, “are you even going to have enough when you get back to the states to live?” Those were questions that were floating around my head. But He said that He would take care of me , that He would provide a way even when there seemed to be no way. And I can honestly say this; He's been there every step of the way and provided everything needed right to this point.
Let me take a minute to show you God's hand in all this. It was about August this past year, I was sitting in my home in the mountains of the Dominican Republic and I began to understand that the work that I had been doing was completed. I was 73 years old... my work was finished and my heart wanted to return home.
What little finances I had took care of monthly expenditures. All of support I'd received over the years went to fulfilling the work that God had called me to. So if I was to return back to the U.S., and live in a place that was secure He'd have to provide. There was no other way.
An amazing thing began to happen as I stepped out of that place of fear (not knowing what would happen as I moved from a comfortable place into the unknown) and into Faith and began to trust God completely with my future. Here's just a few of the things that began to rapidly happen! A friend provided information to me about a fund me account. I hadn't given that any thought. Then God, using the missionary community here in the D.R. provided buyers for all my household items and for the vehicle that I had for transportation. Then He provided a place to stay for me to stay several weeks while I made preparations to return to the states because I had no home to live in at that point. Then He provided what I needed to purchase airline tickets and the finances to send my things back to the states. Then upon arrival back in the states it again was provided for me a warm and safe place to stay where I could get my feet back on the ground. He provided a decent vehicle for the next step and a way to pick up and store my things that had been shipped in. Meanwhile, God was making a way for me to live on a farm as care taker for someone that owned a property in West Virginia and needed someone there as it was being rebuilt. This person had learned this through my GiveSendGo fund account. Can you believe it! Look at what God did! He was making a way where there seemed to be no way. All that was required was that I trusted, and just went along for the ride.
I've been back now several weeks and I've come to the end of the time period that I believed that God had said that it would take to get back and settled here in the states. I am on the farm in West Virginia. Living in a small cabin. All my personal effects are here... and I've begun to oversee the work for the property owner.
I still need a few things to get settled, but I learned something far deeper... and that is Gods heart. Towards me and everyone that loves Him. God Loves! I pray that we never stop learning! God has provided and made a way... and for that I am very Thankful. If God has asked you to give and you haven't as of yet, but you still have a desire to give, then you can still go to GiveSendGo, type in Going Home on the search bar, and you may donate there. I am very thankful for all that heard and gave... and for those of you that prayed to God for a safe return so that I could come back and be closer to my family. Thank you! From my heart, Thank you all!
October 1st, 2019
Good Morning all!
I send greetings from The Sunshine State, Florida's west coast, Bradenton FL. I am so glad to be back in the states after so many years. I arrived back in the states one week ago and have been staying with a missionary friend and his family in Bradenton as I prepare to begin a trek which will eventually lead me to a remote property between Ripley WV And Spencer WV
I am pretty in awe at all that our God has done. But at the same time I know that this is His plan and my trust is in Him and He leads me on. Mine is to hang on, trust Him and enjoy the ride.
Meanwhile, with the finances that have been raised to date and with the sale of some of my household items and vehicle, I have been able to ship my personal effects to the U.S. via Agape Missionary Flights Service. So far so good! The things I wasn't able to sell, I was able to give to needy Dominican Families which gave me great joy! God said to me recently that the things that I gave to others in need would be greatly amplified. How can you argue with God?
While still in the Dominican Republic, I was contacted by a friend of a friend after I posted the 1st page of this GiveSendGo funding page. The friend of a friend offered me a position as a caretaker on a rural property in West Virginia. Wow! Isn't that just like God to know the plan before I even knew it! The owner of the property in WV, who lives in Florida, had bought a property that needs to be repaired and restored and was in need of someone to live on the property for 18 months as it is being rebuilt. The owner of the property won't retire for another year and a half. So I was put in contact with the him and was encouraged by the him to come in somewhat earlier so that we could take a trip to the property. The trip with the owner would enable me get the lay of the land and to see how everything is and what needs to be done. It also would give us both the chance to meet and see if all comes together well. If it is a good fit for him and me, then it will give me a place stay and a time to rebuild and move into the next thing that God has for me. At the same time, it will give me a warm place to stay throughout the coming winter. God is so Good!!
I began this site in an effort to help me return home and to provide me with what I'd need to to live. At this point I have some of the basics. I am trusting God for those things now that I will need to live. Nothing is being provided for me except for a roof over my head and the utilities that will keep me warm. Will you agree with me now as I step out onto the path that He is providing through His sons and daughters? That He will provide? That He will provide everything that will be needed? Thank you for taking the time to read this as I venture into what He is doing for this retiring missionary today. May His blessing fill you all today!
Pastor Vaughn P Gorton (Ret.)
8/23 Good Morning! It's been three weeks since I posted the GiveSendGo account. All I can say is that I am humbled, and thankful and feeling blessed to see how God is touching hearts to help financially... and so many visitors! Wow! Thanks! Now that things are moving towards the date I am to return, the excitement grows. GOD is faithful! Thank you Father! I am going Home! Thank you to everyone that has helped financially to date and for those that GOD is causing to pray about assisting.
hi. things progressing right on along. after prayer I felt like the Spirit was saying to me to make the target date for your return 1 Dec 2019. because I am believing to raise a pretty good amount it was suggested to me to have patience and allow Him time to do whatever it is that needs to get done. to raise sufficient funds, time would be needed for groups, churches and friends to do whatever God showed them to do that would allow the funds to flow in, that will start the wheels rolling to raise the funds to get me back home to the U.S. I also know, because I've seen it over the years, many times... that when the need was there, God would supply according to His riches and Glory. God will never let His children down when they fully trust Him. God will make a way. So, I'm here. I'm in trust mode. This whole thing, the way it is happening and from the position of where I stand... it is just amazing to see God's hands at work. I'm thankful, yeah very thankful... and I'm going home. Can I believe it!! I sure can.
Hello. My name is Vaughn P Gorton. I am a 73 year old retiring christian pastor/missionary who has been on the mission field in Haiti and the Dominican Republic for 25 years. I've finished the work that God had called me to in the Caribbean. I am alone here now... and I'd like to move back to the states to be nearer my daughters and family. I'd need your help in order to do so.
I presently live on social security which is sufficient here for my monthly living. I have little savings and social security is my only income. I have the support of a small church group in northern Georgia that will be helping me to relocate. I don't have sufficient funds coming in monthly to move my personal things back to the states or enough to help me rent a small apartment, or even finances for utilities. I'm believing for the help that would give me the ability to live closer to family. My children will do what they are able to do, but are they are also busy raising their own families and grandchildren so I turn to you and ask, can you help me to get home
