Hi, my name is Lawrence (LJ) Piazza and I'm 18 years old. The mission trip will be 8 days long, and I am going with other volunteers at Waters Church. In partnership with Let Love International, we are going to Zacapa, Guatemala, and we have plenty of work planned ahead of us. Not only will we be participating in many construction projects in our local area, but we will have the opportunity to make meaningful connections with the families and villagers in Guatemala. I'm excited to get started because the community service projects I am participating in will have a permanent, positive effect in the villages of rural Guatemala.
What made me decide to attend this trip? First of all, I have recently wanted to learn more about how society runs in third-world countries like Guatemala. With scarce access to education and good health, it's safe to say that they live much differently than I do in New England. The architecture and technology won't be modernized like the U.S. That is also why I have the motivation to help the families in Guatemala in any way I can. They don't deserve to be born into lives of poverty and malnutrition. Seeing them makes me consider myself lucky.
Most importantly of all, I have the desire to spread the word of the gospel, as Jesus commands it in the Bible. Waters Church is now planning to begin construction on a new church in Guatemala, which will give the villagers a free and open access to worship. This concept is what makes me excited to go. I'm no professional with construction, but I'd be more than happy to learn as I go. If I could receive enough donation money to cover part or all of the trip, that would make the trip more significant to me, as the money wouldn't completely be coming out of my paychecks. In that case, I can begin saving money for college tuition. Thank you for reading, and if you would like any more information about my trip, you can email me at email@example.com .
