I have studied Chinese in high school for four years and it is now my minor in college. I have continuously found a love and passion for the Chinese people, culture, and language. I was hesitant about making Chinese my minor in college because I was unsure of how I could apply it to my Health and Physical Education major. In one of my core education classes in my first semester of college at Indiana Wesleyan University a guest speaker came to talk about teaching internationally. The main country he talked about was China. The speaker and I sparked a relationship after he said that Physical Education teachers are needed at the schools his company administers to in China. Now, I am looking at the possibility of teaching in China sometime after college through this organization and am beyond excited about the possibilities God has in store for me. I went to China last summer through an immersion program at IUPUI to strengthen my language proficiency. But, I’m extremely excited for this opportunity to serve other people as an English teacher this summer. This service learning trip will be a great way to gain experience in a teaching role for this specific country that has been laid on my heart for several years.
