As many of you know our family recently lost our dad to ALS last month. What some of you may not know is that my sister Rachel was diagnosed with breast cancer just a couple of weeks before our dad passed. Sometimes I wonder if the Lord brought dad home soon after Rachel's diagnosis because it was too much for our dad's already aching heart to bear. His Rachel was suffering and it hurt him to see her try to put on a brave face through chemo which started quickly after her diagnosis. Dad and Rachel shared a similar strong, sensitive, quiet spirit. They both love to give generously, they both excel at making sure we know that they care through gift giving.
We all miss our dad very much but Rachel at this very difficult season I would say feels his loss in a different way than our sister Jessica and I. Sometimes, you just want your dad's shoulder to cry on-no matter how old you are.
As a mother of a toddler, Rachel does the best she can to keep life as normal as possible for her little boy. She continues to work full time, while trying to keep up with Rhys and make sure all of his needs are met. This has become increasingly hard over the last week not just because the chemo treatments leave her feeling sick and weak but because Rachel's husband left their home and marriage. Yes, sometimes, the unthinkable happens and sometimes that happens in the middle of an already heartbreaking time. Just when you think things can't get worse..sometimes they do. It seems as though these are the times that people either turn and cling to our heavenly Father or turn away from Him. My sister has chosen to look towards God, she has chosen to trust the One that never lets us down, never leaves and loves unconditionaly.
This is what we believe-God is near to the broken hearted, God is faithful, God is good and God is bigger than any of our circumstances. The purpose of this campaign is to shine His light on my sister Rachel. You can be a RAY of HOPE, you can show her the love of Christ by posting a prayer for her , sharing an encouraging story and/or giving to help her financially at this difficult time. Our family thanks you for showing your love and support!
