Mary Jo Soderlund LaFond, was diagnosed with colon cancer in June of 2017.
The doctors told her that she had stage 3 colon cancer, and it had spread to her lymph nodes. She had surgery to remove part of her colon along with a few of the lymph nodes. She went through the grueling process of 12 chemo treatments, and then she was told in March of 2018, that she was in remission.
They performed a CT scan at that time, and noticed a few spots on her lungs. The doctor wasn’t concerned at that point. They also performed a Doppler ultrasound and they saw that her spleen was slightly enlarged. The Dr scheduled a repeat of the tests in six months.
In September of 2018, the Doppler ultrasound was repeated and the spleen was smaller, which was a good thing. On the other hand, the doctor was now concerned about the spots on her lungs, as the nodules were growing. The nodules were still small, so the doctor chose to wait another three months to perform another CT scan.
Three months later, the nodules were not only growing, but spreading. The doctor had a PET scan, and lung biopsy ordered. The results were in & the doctor told her that she does not have decades, but years to live.
Mary Jo was started on chemo for the second time on January 17th, and will continue every 2 weeks, for the next 6 months.
Mary Jo is burdened with these health issues, and hasn't been able to work. Medical bills are piling up, along with other monthly monetary obligations.
