Dear Friends and Family...
As many of you already know, for the last 8 years, I have had the amazing privilege of being employed at Trinity Christian High School, teaching a myriad of subjects, and wearing many different “hats”. :) In addition to teaching Junior and Senior Girls Contemporary Issues classes, Yearbook, and offering on-site Counseling, I am currently serving as the Student Life Director for the third year, now—which I LOVE. This position includes being the Advisor to the Student Government (planning dances, rallies, school-wide student events, etc.), director of Chapel (planning speakers, activities, training students in music-led worship and other leadership aspects), and helping to plan, organize, and execute our missional and service trips (local, national, and international). This year, I am helping lead our international service/educational trip to Prague, Czech Republic!
Our school does its best to offer many opportunities for students to discover their “passion, purpose, and potential”, and this trip to Prague (which we have done 4x, now!) is just one of the the ways we seek to do that—while also offering students a deeper education about other cultures and serving people, as well. We believe that giving students the chance to serve and bless others outside the United States is a fantastic and powerful way to get students out of their comfort zones and into a position of receiving and blessing simultaneously. It also encourages students’ to explore the possibility of a calling to an international school, job, mission field, etc. - whatever and wherever that may be.
Therefore, this summer, we will be taking a group of 12 students overseas to do just that. Specifically, we will be partnering with a local Czech high school to help teach students English, and alongside some of their own students and staff, we will be helping out at homeless shelters, Prague Teen Challenge, serving Roma children, and reach out to the local youth through a church’s Friday night youth ministry. We also have the opportunity to take in and learn more about the culture of Prague and study some of the history of their city and country, including traveling to the concentration camp in Auschwitz (all of this with the Czech school, continuing to help their students practice English).
It is amazing that God has continued to keep this open door to us for the last 5 years, and we have seen the fruits spiritually, educationally, and relationally in the partnership between these two schools almost 6,000 miles apart, across countries and oceans. However, as everyone knows, these opportunities come with sacrifice – time, money, effort, and lots of prayer. Students are asked to raise their own funds, and while the chaperone cost is less than that of them, it’s still substantial. Therefore, I have set up this page in order to share what rad things our school has the opportunity to do, and also to ask for your help on behalf of myself and my students.
Would you consider partnering with us, whether through prayer or even $20, to help support me and my students in this amazing opportunity? We (and by that I mean me, as it’s part of my job! Ha!) will be updating a blog throughout the time we are there, and I will give the link to anyone who wants it. Please pray that the students would be open and willing to pour out their lives for others, receptive to learning important history and culture, and that we as leaders would be given strength and wisdom as we show the love of God through our service and relationships there.
Thank you so much!
