Those of you who know me, know that I am passionate about doing something for the people of Puerto Rico. I finally have an opportunity through UMVIM and the East Ohio Conference. Our primary objective will be to assist with infrastructure repairs, especially roofing.
My Alabama friends may be asking, why Ohio? I have felt it on my heart to do something for Puerto Rico since the hurricane happened in September 2017, and prayed for an opportunity and direction. Many things fell through, but this one just clicked. So, here I am, Lord. Send me! My mom, a pastor in the East Ohio Conference, is also on our mission team. I had the opportunity to attend the team meeting through a video call last month. I will be flying to Ohio to meet the rest of the team in person in January - it's a great group of mission minded people ready to serve people and serve God. Our trip will be February 5-12, 2019.
More than a year ago, the island was hit by Hurricane Maria, a category 4 hurricane, devastating the island and its infrastructure. Nearly a year passed before electricity was restored. Our mission team will be in one of three locations, all of which are about two hours from San Jaun. Arecibo is in the northwest coast area, Patillas in the southeast coast, and Jayuya is in the center in a mountainous region. We will find out which location we are most needed shortly before the trip and we will serve there.
The cost of the trip is about $1300, plus the required supplies. Due to work, school, or family responsibilities, I have been unable to go in the past, so I helped to send. This time, God has given me an opportunity to GO and I have answered YES! I'm asking for your help. Maybe God has called you to a mission, but for whatever reason, you haven't been able to go yourself - but you CAN send me. I have answered God's call to go and trust He will make the way possible.
Please pray for our mission team and the people of Puerto Rico as they continue to recover from this devestating natural disaster.
And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.” Isaiah 6:8
