In July 2018, we have the opportunity to go to Scotland for a short-term mission trip to help with a youth camp that our church network has supported for 11 years.

Austin went on this trip last year with a heart in love with Scotland, the people, and the culture. Originally he felt like he was supposed to return for an entire year. Apparently God had other plans (marrying Sarah). The desire to return to Scotland never left him though. But we didn't think we were able to go this year because of the wedding, finances, and the fact that the trip was already filled up. However, this is an awesome example of God knowing the desires of our hearts. Right after Austin let go of the disappointment of not going on this year's trip, God intervened. We were approached that a couple on the team was not able to go anymore and they needed another couple. I (Sarah) never felt particularly called to Scotland before, but almost immediately felt the peace and excitement God gives me when He's leading me to something. We prayed about it for a few days and said yes.

Let me add this. Austin never gave up the dream of going to Scotland long-term. He felt like God was telling him that we would go long-term in about two or three years. Someone else told us confirmed that they were hearing this from God as well. And so, although the trip this summer is only week, it is an opportunity that may lead to longer ministry in the future.

So this will be the fourth year that our home church, River City Church, is sending the team. The purpose of the trip is primarily to glorify God. Our team will be assisting Potter’s Church in Stewarton, Scotland in a variety of ways at the camp for about forty Scottish students. Our goal is to reflect Christ in everything that we do with the students and to model a right relationship with God for them.

Scotland has a long tradition of revival and periods of spiritual awakening, but many across the nation today struggle in spiritual darkness with things like alcoholism and feelings of worthlessness to the point of despair. That said, many in Scotland are praying for revival and we believe that this camp – our church network’s tenth consecutive youth camp in Scotland – is a part of what the Lord is doing in Scotland to raise up a generation of Scots who know Christ and will share that abundant life with their countrymen!

Throughout the week of camp, we will be working with the students through morning worship and messages; small groups to discuss the lessons and pray together; activity groups to explore the talents God has given each of us; and evening worship, messages and prayer. We will also be visiting a Potter’s Church after camp where our team will be responsible for the message on Sunday morning.

One of the ways you can help me is to pray for us and for the ministry that we will perform. Only with prayer and support will we be able to do all that God has called us to do! Please pray for us as we prepare as a team – that we would be united to the purposes that God has for us.

And yes, there are also financial needs. The cost of the trip is $1,851, which each team member is responsible to raise. Together as a couple we neeed to raise a combined $3,702. Please pray with us that the funds to cover the trip expenses will be provided. We must have the costs raised by June 19th, because most of the costs are due before we leave, so please send any support that you decide to provide by that date.
