Muli Buti! … or Hi (in Tonga) friends and family!
In the fall semester of 2018, I will be traveling with fifteen other nursing students to embrace the amazing opportunity to spend a semester abroad in Zambia, Africa! Every year Indiana Wesleyan University sends a group of senior nursing students to Zambia. So, from mid-August to mid-November, I will be gaining nursing experience across the world!
I am beyond excited to be a part of this trip. I have experienced a few international mission trips, but this is such a unique opportunity as a nursing student to immerse myself in another culture. The nursing program here at IWU puts an emphasis on the importance of learning how to care for people of all cultures, not just those in the American culture. Therefore, this trip will be fulfilling my transcultural practicum. I will be taking a semester’s worth of classes, as well as experiencing many hours of clinical work in medical settings.
My team’s mission statement sums up the meaning of this trip…
As we immerse ourselves in another culture, our team seeks to glorify God by intentionally serving and loving others, as well as humbly listening and learning from the native people. We strive to reflect Christ by forming relationships, creating community, and pursuing unity despite differences. We are committed to honoring God by providing excellent nursing care along with the comfort of Jesus.
I would like to invite you to begin praying for me, as well as my team. I believe that God is going to use this trip in many ways. I am praying that God would give me experiences that teach me how to better shine His light, no matter where I am in life.
With this great opportunity, there also comes a financial cost. Therefore, I am asking for your help in my fundraising. In addition to my school tuition, I need to raise about $2,000 to cover the cost of this once-in-a-lifetime trip. If you are able, I would greatly appreciate any financial support! **Because this is an educational trip, any financial gifts will not tax-deductible.**
My team will be selling t-shirts to contribute to our fundraising as well. Please let me know if you would be interested in supporting us in this way!
I am also excited to share my experiences and share stories of how God works on this trip through a blog! If you would like to receive email updates for our blog, please give me your email address (either through private message or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org).
If you would rather support me financially by mailing a check or cash, you can send them to my home address.
