A few months ago on a Sunday morning I sat alone, lost in the crowd of the church congregation. I looked up at the “Stand in” preacher and though it’s embarasssing to admit I thought to myself,”There is no way this guy is going to be able to speak to my heart the way Pastor Ray does, How disappointing.”
Then, he began to preach. He read from the book of Luke focusing on Chapter 10, verses 1-10 ,19&20. He spoke of how Jesus gathered a group of 70 people and sent them out to deciple. He said to them “the harvest truly is great but the laborers are few: therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest. “Go your way behold I send you out as lambs among wolves.” I kept hearing him say “Demand is high, but the supply is low”. So I prayed. I had been considering a mission trip for a few weeks. I had looked up several different organizations online to see if I could join something to begin making a difference, but it all seemed so intimidating.
Lost in my thoughts I opened my bulletin and began to read about the upcoming events. It was there that I found a list of church sponsored mission trips. I read the short descriptions and found only one that worked with children. It was to Uganda. That was a scary thought. I tucked it away, and thought that would be the end of it but it wasn’t. God continued to lay it on my heart, so I continued to pray about it. How could God want ME to go on this trip?
I told my family and their support was the push that I needed.
I contacted the woman in charge of the trip and she shared with me her passion and love for ministering over seas. I told her my fears and she reassured me that this would be a great first mission trip and that there is no greater way to feel the direct power of God’s love than to share it with others and see Him work in their lives.
So here I am, I am going to Uganda. I am nervous but I know God will give me the strength I need.
During the trip we will be combining with a pastor based in the area we will be traveling to.
We will be hosting a medical and dental clinic for the people of the area. During this time we will also be providing them with proper medications that we bring with us from the U.S.
We will also visit an orphanage and 2 schools, and make individual home visits to share God’s word with Women in need.
The money of this campaign will fund the medical clinic, and cover the cost of travel.
The verse that God has laid on my heart through this process is
Matthew 5:16: “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in Heaven.”
I wish to Live my life for Him and go where he leads me.I am taking a leap of faith and this trip is the first step.
I thank you for any type of support you are willing to commit to me.
