Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. It really means a lot to me. As many of you know, I'm currently in school studying filmmaking. Back in December, I found out that my school was going to be taking 10 students on a missions trip to Guatemala to work with Orphan Outreach to film 3 mini documentaries. It's really hard to explain, and I know it sounds cliche, but I immediately felt called to go on this trip. However, I did not apply for it right away. In fact, I waited for more than a month. When I saw the cost of the trip, it stopped me from applying because I knew I wasn't going to be able to afford it on my own. So, I left it alone. I dismissed the idea of going to Guatemala. Then, in January, a close friend of mine announced that she was also interested in going on this trip, but she also wasn't sure about being able to have the funds for it. However, the more she talked about it, athe more I could see her faith that if this was God's will, then He would provide the funds for her. This inspired me. All of the sudden, I knew I had to apply; this time for real. I prayed about it, and I just knew I had to take a chance. However, it was already late January. I didn't even know if applications were still being accepted. So, I decided to email the professor in charge to ask if there was still room on the trip. I remember I emailed him on a Friday late night. I wasn't expecting a response before Monday because it's common for professors to not look at school emails during weekends. To my surprise, he replied to me that same night! It turns out that that I had emailed him on the last day they were accepting applications! However, because there was still room on the trip, he was very kind and gave me an extention till Monday to turn in my appliation. I was so thankful to God for nudging me to email the professor. Over that weekend, I worked hard to complete the application, and before Monday I had everything turned in. A couple days later, I was confirmed as part of the Guatamelan team. I was overjoyed. I was officially part of team. Praise God!
On our first team meeting, I found out that I was actually going to be part of an all female crew. My teammates and I are going to have the opporutnity to film a documentary for Hope and Future-- a branch of Orphan Outreach that houses women that have suffered abuse from sex trafficking. Words cannot describe how excited and grateful I am for this opportunity. The reason I chose to go to film school in the first place was because I wanted to tell stories of people who wouldn't normally have a voice . These women have gone through unimaginable and horrific circumstances, and they deserve to have a voice. They deserve to have their stories told. They deserve to have the world know what they went through, and how strong they are to have endured it. I'm just happy to be a part of the team that's going to help their cause.
I signed up for this trip with faith that God would provide for me. I ask you to please consider giving me a donation. Please pray about it, and only give what you feel comfortable giving. Any amount will make a big difference. I really appreciate your support and kindness.
