What a surprise!!!! We had no idea when the phone rang on January 31st what news would be on the other end of the line.
About 3 months ago Sayer started talking in great detail about a baby sister coming. We were perplexed obviously because there have been no plans for that. Not on the radar for us at all, and yet he persisted. Through the holidays and into the new year, it became such a part of Sayers conversation that I actually asked Steve what we would do if we got a call that Sayers birth mom wanted to place another baby with us? As crazy as that sounded coming out of my mouth, and to his ears, it was the only thing that seemed to make any kind of sense of Sayers ongoing and detailed “imagination.”
Well as crazy as it seems, that is EXACTLY the news that came with that phone call. After complete SHOCK we quickly transitioned to preperation.
We are blown away and humbled and excited and just downright in awe of how God has designed our family to walk this beautiful adoption road once again. That He has made a way for Sayer to not only have another face in this family that looks like him, and that’s been a huge deal folks, but to bring him a blood sibling. The weight of this is beyond explanation. This is a gift, the kind of gift that only God can give. Adoption is born out of heartbreak and loss and that is not at all to be understated here, but God is the author of Redemption and Grace and The One who makes beauty from ashes. To witness this so up close is just beyond amazing. This is something that we could never do for Sayer in our wildest dreams. This is all God’s doing, His provision for this sweet boy and now this other sweet child. To have each other forever. That despite pain and loss and heartbreak and whatever else, their mother thought of them first and wanted them to have each other. All we had to do was say YES, and we did. It is the honor of our life to have her choose and entrust us to love and guide and parent these kids.
This was not in the plan for us as we charted out 2018. We now find ourselves quickly updating our homestudy and preparing for a new baby in every single way.
When we started the adoption process for Sayer, we didn’t know half of the things we know now. One of those things is how people love to rally behind adoptive families and become part of the child’s story. We did some fundraising through garage sales and such and were blown away by the generosity of complete strangers. Strangers who wanted to help and contribute and in doing so offered prayers and good wishes and sometimes even became new friends. We were so humbled by this amazing support of perfect strangers.
As we are now on this road once again we decided to BOLDLY put this news out there in order for our friends and family to have the opportunity to help with these unforeseen adoption expenses and become part of this child’s story in a most generous way, and to certainly keep us all in prayer. Please spread this story and join us in prayers of protection and health for this growing baby and for the heart and health of this dear Birth Mom. We are so thankful and so excited and so humbled. Please stay tuned for updates as we continue down this road towards June. This week we should find out if Sayers imaginative talk about a baby sister is even more exact and on point than we could have ever imagined. Somehow I won’t be a bit surprised!!!!
SAYER HAS NO IDEA ABOUT THIS YET. WE ARE NOT FILLING HIM IN YET AND ARE WAITING UNTIL THE REALITY IS MUCH CLOSER. PLEASE DO NOT SAY ANYTHING TO HIM. ALSO, WE ARE NOT SHARING THIS ON FACEBOOK AS OF YET. THANKS FOR YOUR UNDERSTANDING OF THIS.
All our love,
Steve and Jen
