We’ve heard for years about online scams and often the targets are seniors. Many to most of them have no discernment about what’s real and what’s fake. Increasingly fake things are all over most social media. 

But there are old school methods of scamming and snail-mail is one of those methods. And my mother fell for one of those scams to the tune of around $16,000. 

She’s 82 years old and has a slight amount of dementia, but when she told me about it, she seemed clear headed and remorseful in hindsight. She said she knew it was a scam and did it anyway because she felt like maybe if it wasn't one, she could help all of us and I appreciate that. But now that we know about it, I’m doing what I can.
