After a year of anticipation coming home from my first visit, I was ready to learn and become more involved with the topic of Human Trafficking/ Sex Slavery. Last year I had the opportunity to step back into the streets of Thailand, Cambodia, and Mynmar/Burma.I had a mission to make a long lasting impact. I was able to speak directly with women working in the sex industry. I listened to their stories, showing genuine interest in their dreams, and in turn allowed them to have a positive social experience with a Male their age. I had young children ranging between the ages of 3 and 15 latch on to my arms and legs, pouring out all of their love. In one experience, a small boy around 12 became attached to me, gifting me with the only toy he had. This particular boy, at an orphanage in Northern Thailand, was evidence enough that my trip there was no mistake. After only three days, as I left that orphanage for my return to California, that little boy came waving and smiling with one thing to say. A sentence later translated to me, meaning he thought of me as his Dad.
After my latest return, I realized my mission was a success. I most certainly left an impact on these children, but I didn’t feel completely accomplished, instantly feeling the need to return.
I have now accepted a month long Internship at G.R.O.W, an orphanage in Northern Thailand, where that little boy calls home. I will be living with these children, mentoring them, keeping them safe, and showing them that hope is never lost. Also, I will be building a fifty person table where these children will finally have a place to sit and eat together. The faces of these children I dream about need our love. I am asking for you to help me in this journey. I cannot do it without the support of my family and friends. Your donation will not only help my mission, it will play a role in spreading awareness of this issue all around the world.
