On September 12, 2015, Kevin, a healthy 21 year old, was a victim of a vicious crime that left him instantly paralyzed and fighting for his life, in which he had to be flown to the nearest hospital. He was shot once in his back, which caused several injuries. Some of the other injuries, other than the paralysis, consisted of a punctured lung, broken ribs, and a severed spine. He was admitted into the ICU. His mother, siblings and other family members were at his bedside day and night while he fought to recover. He continually experienced excruciating pain that the strongest medication was unable to relieve. Due to this traumatic experience, he experienced ICU Delirium which had him waking up confused, unaware of where he is, and hallucinations.
Kevin was recently released. However, that doesn't mean that the fight is over. Kevin now needs help finding a new home that is suitable to his new needs. Finding a home in such a short amount of time and with limited funds has been really hard for him and the family. Kevin is now living with a family members however, because the home is full and somewhat over crowded, Kevin, along with his mother and twin brother, are forced to live in the basement of the home. These living conditions are not ideal for someone who is wheelchair dependent.
Also, upon being released from rehab, Kevin, whose medical insurance is still in the "pending" stages, is having to pay out of pocket for his medications as well as other medical supplies that he can not go without. This is quickly adding up. As you can see, help is immensely needed. Probably now more than ever
Any funds donated will go to unpaid medical bills, medication, other equipment needed to assist with mobility as well as any other things needed by Kevin and his family.
