Hello. My name is Cathy Daniels (Habeger). For those of you who don't know me, here is a bit of background information.
I was born and raised as a missionary kid in East Africa. My parents have been in Africa with Wycliffe Bible Translators since 1992. I also met the man who is now my husband on the plains of the mission field when I was young. He too is a missionary kid, and that is a God-thing for us in and of itself.
Both of us have had a deep calling to serve the Lord on the mission field as well, and have been slowly working on the needed schooling to get us where we feel God has called us to be.
I started college with the desire and calling to go into the field of nursing, and have been working on my prerequesites to enter a nursing program in order to get my BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing). However, along the way, God led me through a course in getting my CNA (Certified Nursing Aid) license, and I have been working in that field for almost one year.
Growing up, I was always the tom boy of my family seeing as I was one of four girls with no boys. I played sports all the time growing up, and was always pretty healthy and strong. I had occassional injuries, but no broken bones or major health problems.
About two weeks ago, I woke up one moring and could not stand up straight without having a searing pain shoot from my right hip up to my mid back. I pushed through three days of excruciating pain and many at-home remedies before I finally gave in and set up an appointment with a chiropractor. At that point, it was very obvious that something in my back or hips was out.
Now, growing up, I was always very earie of chiropractors. In fact, they really kind of scared me. I didn't like the idea of someone popping my back/neck knowing full well that they could do harm to my spine, and I had heard all sorts of stories from people close to me that indicated that chiropractors sometimes don't know what they are doing and can cause some severe damage to your spine.
So, going into the chiropractor, I was very nervous, but knew that something in my lower back was out and would not go in by itself. At my first appointment, the doctor asked a series of questions ranging from what kind of lifestyle I have outside of work to what I think may be the problem. After that, he examined my posture. At that point, he could recognize that something was majorly off. He then had me lay face down as he felt all the way down from my spine explaining what he was finding out and what symptoms it could be connected to. I had no idea that my spine could effect so many things about my health. That was when I began to realize that the shape my spine was in was way worse than I thought. That same day, he did six x-rays that he examined in detail. He didn't want to rush anything in finding the underlying problems. In the next appointment, he explained that my back wasn't in good shape at all and there were many places in my back that weren't as they should be. All in all, he explained that I had about ten discs in my neck and lower back that were out and causing problems including the beginning of bone spurs. He then went on to explain that the healing process that he reccommends to get my back on its way to being strong and healthy. This process is a three month-long process of putting my back in place and building its muscles up to keep it in the best shape it can be. In other words, he had a plan to get my back in shape so I wouldn't have to rely on a chiropractor.
The financial cost of this process is extremely expensive. It costs a total of about $3,000 just towards the medical bills. That amount has already been reduced by what my insurance can cover and some discounts he gave us.
Now, my husband and I can barely make it on our income with the bills we have normally. Adding this huge bill is something that we truly cannot afford where we are now. We do feel like God is directing us to do the treatment in order to get my health back on track, but we also recognize that God is going to have to provide the money for it in one way or another.
With this in mind, I feel like He led me to this GiveSendGo account idea. I feel God saying that this is a way that He can provide for the finances we need.
Now, I ask you to pray and ask God if He wants to use you to meet that financieal need. I know He is in control and will direct us in His best will. I also ask you to pray for my husband and me as we seek God in each step we take and for His healing touch.
