The past couple of years, God has been shaping my life in more ways than one. Last summer, with your prayers and support, I was able to make my way to Mexico City to spread the Gospel to the unreached people in several different areas of Mexico. I have come to find out after my time abroad that God has developed a passion in me for teaching English to the Spanish speaking people. During my time in Mexico, my teammate and I began an English club for the Spanish speaking students at a local church. This really sparked an interest in me to begin thinking about how I could use my Spanish language degree to serve God and His kingdom after I graduate. Through lots of prayer and consideration, and with the help of my guidance counselor, I have decided to pursue the path of majoring in Spanish and Minoring in Religious Studies and Translation Studies in the hopes that I will graduate as a certified translator and Spanish major. I also plan on receiving my certificate in English as a Second Language, but because IUPUI does not have a convenient ESL program as an option for me, I have decided to look elsewhere for a quality program that would better suit my plan to graduate college in four years.
After searching and weighing the different options of ESL programs, I have applied to and been accepted into the Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA) course at the Teaching House in Chicago, Illinois. I will be spending four weeks (July 25 – August 19) learning how to teach English with eleven other students through extensive training sessions, learning the principles of effective teaching, and valuable hands on experience. Through taking this course and earning my certificate, it will allow me to serve the Lord by teaching English anywhere in the world because the CELTA Certificate is internationally recognized. Chicago has one of the most diverse populations in the United States, boasting almost 17 different ethnic groups with the Hispanic population making up 29% of the population in Chicago. This will give me an advantage to spread the Gospel throughout the city, and I will be able to use my Spanish language skills in practical ways.
This course has been a huge step in faith for myself as a junior in college, as well as my parents who have supported me through all of my decisions in my path to become a missionary. Many of you have watched me throughout this year as I have made several decisions which will impact my life and my course in the future and your prayers have been more than appreciated! I am asking you to partner with me in this journey as I continue my education in Chicago. Please pray that I will be motivated to pass this course with a high grade, that the people I come in contact with will notice something different about me because of the Love of Christ that I have, and that I will be safe in Chicago with the Lord’s guiding hand will carrying me wherever I go.
Secondly, I am asking that you would consider supporting me financially. The total of this course and the cost of living in Chicago is $3,000. This will cover the cost of the course, lodging, supplies for the course, and transportation expenses while in Chicago. Thankfully, God found a wonderful family through Park Community Church in Chicago who I will be staying with during the length of my course, so the cost of living for me will be reduced dramatically.
Any and all donations are accepted, and I am so thankful for your prayers and support.
