Kenscoff is a remote town in the mountains of Haiti, home to the Chances for Children Pediatric Clinic. This medical clinic is the first of its kind in this area providing high quality care with its fully equipped laboratory, inpatient capability, outpatient clinic, X-ray, pharmacy, and dental services. The Clinic has partnered with Feed My Starving Children, providing nutrition assistance to vulnerable children and families in Kenscoff and the surrounding area. The clinic has recently gained a new manager, Juvenal Fils. Juvenal is a Haitian native, but has spent recent years studying in the U.S. Juvenal has a vision and life mission of making Haiti a better place for its people to live, and as part of this mission he has dedicated one year of his life to managing the C4C medical clinic before pursuing a degree and license in Medicine. The Chances for Children medical clinic is a non-profit effort focusing on using all contributions to directly serve patients. For this reason, transportation is shared between all employees, making it difficult to access. As the clinic is located in a remote area of Haiti, resources are extremely limited and not within walking distance. There is one local street market, and public transportation is unreliable. When taking public transportation it takes more than twice the time to get to your destination, and finding transportation to return from your destination can be difficult. The goal of this fundraising page is to raise enough money to buy Juvenal a small motorcycle that can manage the treacherous roads of Haiti. Having a personal means of transportation will allow Juvenal to leave the small Kenscoff area and access Petionville, the closest "city/town" where amenities such as the bigger markets and businesses are located. Managing a medical clinic in Haiti is an emotionally and psychologically exhausting position. On top of that, the unreliability of transportation available to him makes completing activities of daily living such as grocery shopping or visiting a friend much more difficult. Without transportation, life for a foreigner in this region feels extremely isolating. By providing Juvenal with a means of transportation we will be making his challenging job and life in Haiti a bit easier.
