Why should you donate to this cause? What is G.O.L.D. (Growth Opportunities for Learning and Development)? What is Talents Unleashed? Who are Debbie and Onnie Carr?
It all started with a thought “All creativity comes from God and all creativity reflects back to God”. In 2001, with that thought in mind, Debbie Arce-Carr decided to start GOLD. The aim was to create a space where people could discover, nurture, appreciate, and grow creative talents. By meeting in people’s houses, lessons on music, piano, singing, acting, and dancing were provided. In 2006, Onnie Carr joins in and Talents Unleashed begins to take shape. A Website is created, GOLD becomes a non-profit organization and Talents Unleashed (TU) is officially a business. By October 2013, GOLD/ TU move into their current location at: 12265 Southwest 129th Court, Miami, FL, US. With all hands-on deck and Onnie at the lead on the construction project, the warehouse is turned into a black box theatre and upstairs a multi-purpose room.
At its peak (pre-COVID), GOLD/ TU saw 120 participants yearly and about 80 participants in their Summer Camps. Depending on the season and availability, people got to enjoy the following programs and events: Open Mic, piano, voice lessons, dance, Zumba, guitar, music theory, martial arts, movie nights, seminars, language classes (sign-language and foreign), bible studies, and more. GOLD/ TU have been open to people of all ages, backgrounds, and beliefs for over 22 years.
In November 2019, without a warning, Onnie was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer. Then, in March 2020, as he was wrapping up his first round of treatment, COVID hit, and all places of gathering were ordered shut. The last four years have been difficult for them but by the grace of God, Onnie is continuing his cancer battle and Debbie continues to oversee GOLD/ TU.
To streamline expenses, we believe the answer might be to rent a space where Debbie and Onnie could live and continue to manage TU simultaneously. However, the down payment (first, last and one month security) to rent such a place is beyond their current savings. Hence the fundraiser was initiated.

My aim in all of this is to let you know that by donating to this cause, you will be helping Debbie and Onnie continue the dream of inspiring people in their creative pursuits. You will be helping Debbie and Onnie find a place to live where they can maneuver in a walker or wheelchair if necessary (their current home does not have that space). You will be the reason why, people (my family included) get to enjoy a great creative program with an amazing group of people.

¿Porque donar a esta causa? ¿Qué es G.O.L.D. (Oportunidades de crecimiento para aprendizaje y desarrollo)? ¿Qué es Talents Unleashed (Talentos Desatados)? ¿Quiénes son Debbie y Onnie Carr?
Todo comenzó con un pensamiento “Toda creatividad proviene de Dios y toda creatividad refleja a Dios”. En el 2001, con ese pensamiento en mente, Debbie Arce-Carr decidió crear GOLD. El propósito fue abrir un espacio donde la gente pueda descubrir, nutrir, apreciar y crecer sus talentos creativos. Por medio de encuentros en casas de diversas personas se ofrecían clases de música, piano, canto y baile. En el 2006, Onnie Carr se une a la visión, una página web es creada, GOLD se convierte en una organización sin fines de lucro y Talentos Desatados (TU) se forma de manera oficial. En octubre del 2013, GOLD y TU se instalan en su local actual: 12265 SW 129 CT, Miami, FL. Con todos ayudando y Onnie al mando de la construcción, el local se convierte en un pequeño teatro y el segundo piso en un cuarto multiuso.
En sus mejores tiempos (pre-COVID), 120 personas participaban anualmente en GOLD/TU y cerca de 80 personas participaban de los campamentos de verano. Dependiendo de la temporada y disponibilidad, los participantes disfrutaron de programas como: Open Mic, piano, clases de canto, baile, zumba, guitarra, teoría/ solfeo, artes marciales, noche de película, seminarios, clases de idioma, estudio bíblico y mucho más. GOLD/TU ha trabajado con gente de todas las edades, trasfondos y creencias desde hace más de 22 años.
En noviembre del 2019, sin aviso alguno, Onnie fue diagnosticado de cáncer de próstata y había alcanzado la cuarta etapa. Luego, en marzo del 2020, poco después de que Onnie terminara su primer tratamiento, llego COVID, y todos los lugares de encuentro fueron cerrados. Los últimos cuatro años han sido difíciles, pero por la gracia de Dios, Onnie sigue en su batalla contra el cáncer y Debbie continua su trabajo con GOLD/TU.
Para minimizar los gastos, creemos que la respuesta está en alquilar un espacio donde Debbie y Onnie puedan vivir y continuar el trabajo de dirigir GOLD/ TU. Pero el depósito para un alquiler (cuota del primer mes, cuota del ultimo mes y cuota de seguridad) es mucho mas de lo que tienen ahorrado. Por esto estamos haciendo esta recaudación de fondos.

Usted estará ayudando a que Debbie y Onnie puedan mudarse a una casa donde tengan espacio para movilizarse con bastón o silla de ruedas (donde viven actualmente no tienen espacio para esto). Usted será la razón por la cual gente (como mi familia y yo) tendrá la oportunidad de formar parte de un grupo de gente maravillosa y un excelente programa creativo.
