I am God-fearing and help my community.

About Me...

My name is Theonna and I have been in the book business for over 15 years. I am a God-fearing and happily married mother of 2. I grew up in Virginia and am still there now. I grew up in a single-family household in a small neighborhood in Virginia Beach. At certain times things were difficult but we fought through and I ended up getting my degree in Business Management.

I started this business in 2007. The business was a passion of mine as I grew up reading books. I had a huge collection. I was a huge fan of the Babysitters Club and Sweet Valley High. Back then, I never knew I would grow up to be a book dealer.

I was asked to develop a business plan for my entrepreneurship class in college. I came up with selling books online. In fact, I was the only one in the class that came up with an online business. I have been doing that ever since. One of the greatest opportunities I have had with this business is selling about 100,000 books to a company in California. I would like to build a stable business that I can pass down to my children. I am excited about what the future holds for me!

About My business

Book Kona LLC is an online bookselling business. We sell with some of the top retailers in the world like Amazon and Alibris. The business was built from the ground up; book-by-book, deal-by-deal. We make deals with other business owners. We help universities keep books out of landfills fields by making deals with them.  Also, we acquire hard-to-find books from local stores to help spread literacy.

Our customers are anyone in the world. Internationally, we have sold to countries like Morocco, Israel, France, Spain, Switzerland, Argentina, Taiwan, Singapore, South Africa, and South Korea.

Although we work very hard, I am most proud of my ability to be able to set my own hours and remain in business for almost 10 years. Our biggest challenge is to keep up with current trends in the book industry and figure out new ways to sell our inventory. i am very grateful for the opportunity to run such an amazing business!

Why Am I Fundraising?

I am fundraising to ask for funds to help pay for my business debt relief.
The Bible says Proverbs 22:7—” The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is a slave to the lender.” My people, African Americans, have been slaves since they landed a foot on American soil. Thus we have no proper chance to engage in such transactions righteously.
I created this campaign to ask the church community to help with the payment of my debt which is owed to SBA. Because that is the government, this will never apply to me "At the end of every seven-year period you shall have a relaxation of debts" (Deuteronomy 15:1-2).
I took out my SBA loan in 2018 to help prevent my business from going under as I had a baby in the house and our business was our only source of income. Ignorant of debt and how the SBA works I was on low funds and defaulted on my loan.
My loan was eventually sent to a government lender who presumably went out of business when the pandemic started. With the pandemic starting and the government giving monies, I wouldn't hear any correspondence from the U.S. Treasury on the status of my loan for two years. Once I heard from them again this year, my debt was mysteriously 9,000 dollars more. I thought it might have been forgiven, instead, it sat there accruing monies with no correspondence from the U.S. Treasury for me to act.

I ask my church community for support. Please help!!!!
