Update #4 November 2, 2021
Hi everyone. In the last week Natalia unfortunately had a setback due to chronic neuropathic pain. It's been so hard on her that she went an entire week unable to make it through physical therapy. After doctors appointments they adjusted treatments and medications. The last 2 days have been much better thank God. They did also increase her physical therapy and a bit more aggressive again. Please pray for continued healing, physically and mentally.
Update #3 October 22, 2021
Hi everyone. It has been over a month and Natalia is now home, we are so thankful she has made it this far... she is quite the miracle. She is progressing however her journey to full recovery is still ongoing, She is able to walk with a walker as she is only 50% weight bearing on legs. She is still experiencing a lot of pain in her legs, the doctors do say its normal as she continues to heal. Her arm is still in the process of fully healing, as I said prior- this can take months to have the nerves regenerate and have full mobility She is also experiencing more triggers and episodes of PTSD, that has been very hard to see, she'll be seeing a trauma therapist. Overall she is good, she has some very tough moments and other moments of full joy. She is strong and encouraged. We are blessed by her resilience and strength through this process.
Once again, THANK YOU for all your prayers and support.
Update #2 October 3, 2021
Hello everyone, it's now 2 full weeks since accident. Natalia is now at the Hershey Penn State Rehabilitation Hospital. She is now going through extensive physical and occupational therapy. Though there are times of pain, discomfort and frustrations... there is also progress, healing and hope with many smiles. Day by day she's getting stronger. She's been able to stand with walker and take some steps; her legs are working however she cannot bear too much weight on them. Her arm is still "sleepy", it'll take time for the nerves to regenerate there and have full mobility. They aren't sure just yet how long she'll be here. It's only been 3 days, but they will give an update next week when the PT/OT's gather to discuss her progress and gage an estimate of time needed here for recovery.
thank you all again for your continued prayers and support. We definitely feel them, God is so so good.
Update #1 September 28, 2021
So this is day 10 and Natalia is progressing. She had 2 successful surgeries- One of the surgeries was to her pelvis and sacrum, the pelvis was broken in 3 places and sacrum detached so they inserted a 6 inch rod/screw to hold everything back together. Her second surgery was in her arm, which was also broken in 3 places, they inserted a plate to hold it all together.
Next steps for Natalia is to be transferred to Hershey's pediatric rehab center later this week. Physical therapy will be her longer journey to get her back to walking and moving properly.
