But the battle rages on .... and cancer is winning!

OCCUPATIONAL CANCER AMONG FIREFIGHTERS - JUST HOW BAD IS IT?

Every 21½ hours, at least one American and/or Canadian firefighter dies from occupational cancer.

About 40% of all firefighters working today will be diagnosed with cancer during their careers.

A firefighter’s child is 27-times more likely to be get cancer than a child of a non-firefighter.

In 2023, 72% of IAFF member line-of-duty deaths were due to occupational cancer.

In Canada, close to 94% of line-of-duty deaths among professional fire fighters are the result of occupational cancers.

Early detection of cancer greatly increases the chances for successful treatment and survival.

We are Firefighters Vs Cancer. Our mission is to impart timely, life-saving information to the more than 1.2M North American firefighters about the necessity of cancer screening and so, the “early detection of the presence of cancer,” and to finance (or help finance) the screening tests needed to address their concerns.

The funds we raise will help (or completely) defray the total cost of producing the first-ever competition as we search for America's Funniest Firefighter. Our New England Region quest begins in Boston, Massachusetts on May 17, 2024. The anticipated success of the production will launch our efforts into every region of the United States and Canada as the search for each region's funniest firefighter. Within a year or so, we expect to invite all the regional winners - there will be eight or nine - to compete for the Grand Prize - the title America's Funniest Firefighter!

Your generous gift will bring success to our event and, so, bring the firefighter's Occupational Cancer epidemic to the forefront. We will build off this initial success and focus on the enormous task of raising millions of dollars to make sure every firefighter in North America can be tested for the presence of cancer. The early detection of most cancers will almost always lead to a successful outcome for any and all firefighters so stricken.
