Here is just one of our amazing patient stories.
Michelle came to her appointment at CAPS for a pregnancy test with her boyfriend, Nick. She met with the Patient Care Specialist (PCS) and began expressing her nervousness and fear about being pregnant. She and her boyfriend were both just nineteen-year-old students and working part time jobs. Michelle was undecided about what to do with the pregnancy and wanted to get information about abortion.
Michelle met with a nurse for education and pregnancy verification. The pregnancy test was positive. Nick joined Michelle in the ultrasound room. They were both anxious and still unsure about the about the pregnancy, but once they saw the baby, their mood changed. Nick watched the monitor with amazement, he exclaimed, " It's moving!". Nick was smiling and holding Michelle's hand as she watched her baby on the ultrasound.
The PCS gave the couple some time to absorb the impact of seeing their baby and then gently began a conversation about their situation. Michelle was hesitant about the pregnancy because her family lives outside of the United States and she wouldn't have her parents close. Nick expressed anxiety because he wasn't sure his family would be supportive. The PCS ended their time together by offering prayer which was received with tears and gratitude.
The second ultrasound showed a strong heartbeat. Michelle mentioned that she and Nick still hadn't made their final decision about the pregnancy. CAPS sent out a prayer text.
The next day a CAPS nurse made a follow up call and Michelle told her she and Nick were going to keep their baby!
